Welcome to St. Augustine's Church
St. Augustine’s Church is an attractive grade 2 listed building at the heart of Scissett. As the local Church of England Parish Church, it has been part of the community since 1838. Scissett Church of England Academy is close by and has strong links with St Augustine’s. Members of the church go into school, whilst pupils and staff come to church for various activities. We also have close links with Hillside Nursery School. We run a Charity Shop on nearby Wakefield Road, and this is a good place to pick up some bargains or dispose of unwanted items. St. Augustine’s Church has been fully refurbished with good facilities and is available for hire. It is also a popular place for weddings. The well maintained clock on the tower is visible from Wakefield Road. We meet regularly for worship and prayer. St. Augustine’s is a member of Churches Together in High Hoyland, Scissett and Clayton West. Together we run events throughout the year, including Holiday Club. Our vision at St Augustine’s is ‘knowing and experiencing more of God and loving and serving each other in the community.’ We aim to welcome all those who come wherever they are on their journey of faith. | ||

![]() | Prayers for when you can't get to churchLord Jesus Christ, you said to your disciples, ‘I am with you always’. Be with me today, as I offer myself to you. Hear my prayers for others and for myself, and keep me in your care. Amen.
Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

Thank you to everyone for supporting Revd Kate Currie and Revd Mrs Evelyne Barrow at the licensing service at St Aidan’s Skelmanthorpe on March 2nd. It was a lovely service.
At St Augustine's we take the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults very seriously and our policies, approved by the Church of England and the Diocese of Leeds, are designed to underpin this.
COVID 19 has had a big impact on our life as a church and meant that we have needed to adapt our worship and our life together to keep people safe. This has included offering worship online as well as in our building. Church services ARE now taking place in St Augustine’s Church at the moment. Our main weekly service is at 11am each Sunday. Please see the Services page of this website for more information. We also have our coffee morning on the Fourth Saturday of every month from 10.30am as well as other events through the year
We have taken various steps to keep people as safe as possible so you may notice some differences. In particular we ask that you wear a face covering in church. We also encourage you to take a lateral flow test before meeting other people in church. Things can change quite quickly and we will do our best to infor
